Week Four, Day Five -- Happy New Year!

Well, we're at the end of our fourth week of entering sweepstakes and so far, we've won five prizes. You've probably noticed that a lot of these sweepstakes are ending today. We're hoping that means we'll get some prize notifications in the next couple of weeks.
In the meantime, we're being as diligent as ever, entering sweepstakes after sweepstakes after sweepstakes. To be perfectly honest, it's getting to be a little tedious. This probably has something to do with the fact that we haven't had a prize notification in a while so we're not feeling as inspired.
But enough of the whining and back to the winning! Today's sweepstakes are all to win trips. What better way to kick off a new year than with a free vacation? All of these trips are for U.S. destinations and they all pay for transportation and the hotel--at a minimum. Oh, and none of these trips require you to take a tour of timeshare property :-)

Good luck and Happy New Year!

Week Four, Day Four -- Shoot for the Moon

Today we're going to shoot for the moon--literally and figuratively. These sweepstakes are all for big prizes (including lunar property!) Because I'm getting this posted so late, I'm going to skip the chit-chat and get straight to the sweepstakes. Good luck and we'll see you tomorrow!

  • $25,000 and More -- 53 prizes available, enter daily through January 31, 2011

Week Four, Day Three -- 5 Minutes

I will be the first to admit that entering these sweepstakes can be a time consuming process. Each day, I go back through every post in this blog and enter every sweepstakes that allows daily entries. Start to finish, I can easily spend 30 minutes a day on this.

Personally, I don't have a lot of free time to spare and I'm sure most of you don't either. With that in mind, today's sweepstakes can all be entered FAST. No long registration forms, no confirming your email address. Just quick and simple entry forms that can be filled out in a matter of seconds. As a result, there are a wide variety of prizes availble to win but hopefully there will be something that appeals to everyone.

Happy sweeping and we'll see you tomorrow!

Week Four, Day Two -- In the Kitchen

I love kitchen stuff. I love shopping for new pots and pans, a new blender, or a new set of steak knives. Nevertheless, Michael knows that such things do NOT make good gifts.

Guys, if you're reading this, please take note: Do NOT buy your wife or girlfriend something that should be used in the kitchen as a Christmas, birthday, or Valentine gift. If she expresses an interest in something and you want to buy it for her on a random Tuesday, go for it. It will be very appreciated. But on a holiday, please stick to the romantic gifts (jewelry, perfume, love letters, etc.).

But so, since I (thankfully) didn't receive any of these things for Christmas, I thought it would be fun to enter to win some kitchen stuff. There's a nice variety of prizes today--including the kitchen sink!

As a side note, be sure to enter all you can in the next few days because a lot of the sweepstakes listed in our blog are ending on December 31, 2010. Hopefully, this will result in a January full of winnings!

See you tomorrow!

Week Four, Day One -- Something Sparkly

On Christmas morning, I woke up to find something sparkly waiting for me under the tree. A few something sparklies, to be exact.

There's something nice about jewelry. It can dress up the plainest outfit, it can make you feel beautiful when you wear it, and it can make you feel special when you receive it.

And if you're a guy, it can score you some serious points with the woman in your life.

But if you didn't happen to give or receive jewelry this Christmas, you're in luck. All of today's sweepstakes are for something sparkly. And even if jewelry was under your tree, you can't have too much of a good thing, right?

Week Three, Day Five -- Going to the Dogs

In the last few days, we've entered sweepstakes for kid stuff, we've entered sweepstakes for guy stuff, and we've entered sweepstakes for baby stuff. Today I've decided to include yet another member of the family in the winnings--pets.

We are cat people. We only have one cat now but when we got married, we had six cats between the two of us. Over the years, that number as slowly decreased but I imagine we'll always have at least one.

The prizes available in today's sweepstakes are not necessarily for cats. We figure if we win a dog prize, we'll donate it to a local shelter.

On another note, tomorrow is Christmas. We wish you all a very merry and blessed day and we will see you on Monday!

Week Three, Day Four -- Oh Baby!

We currently don't have any babies in the house (our youngest is two) but we sure haven't forgotten how expensive it can be to equip your home for one! Between the crib, the carseats, the clothes, and the diapers, that little bundle of joy is gonna cost you thousands.
But what better (or more fun) way to deflect some of these costs than by winning some baby gear? All of today's sweepstakes are chock full of baby supplies to help take a little strain off of your baby budget.
Happy sweeping!

Week Three, Day Three -- More Money, More Money

Last week we devoted one day to entering sweepstakes that offered cash for prizes. Since cash is probably everyone's favorite prize, we've decided to do it again this week. Maybe we'll even make a weekly feature of it.

The way we see it this week, though, is that everybody could probably use a little financial help after Christmas. So by entering these sweeps today, maybe you'll end up with a surprise windfall after the holidays. Hey, it never hurts to dream, right?

Now all of the sweeps we're entering today offer cash as their grand prize. Some of them also offer smaller runner-up prizes. In some cases, it is possible to win both a smaller prize and the grand prize.

As a side note, I finished wrapping Christmas presents today. I know you don't care but I'm so relieved to be finished that I just had to share :-)

Good luck and see you tomorrow!

Week Three, Day Two -- Boys and Their Toys

Yesterday was all about the kids -- toys, movies, etc. Today is going to be about grown men and their toys. Men don't get too worked up over dolls and Disney flicks. But start talking about chain saws or riding mowers and their ears will perk right up.

So today the focus will be on the guys (I don't even know what all of these things are!). I would love to win any one of these prizes for Michael, though, so he can tell everyone what a great gift his wonderful wife got for him ;-)

Then again, if either of us win one of these prizes, that'll be one less thing he'll "need" to buy and we'll both be happy!

Week Three, Day One -- Kid Stuff

As I talked about on Friday, Christmas is coming and I am excited! I think this time of year brings out the child in me so I thought it would be fun to enter to win kid stuff today. Kid stuff includes toys, games, children's movies, art supplies, etc.

It's a safe bet that if I won something in any of today's sweepstakes the prize would go to one of my children. Then again, Michael is a pretty big kid, himself, so he might snag the prize before the poor kiddos even had a chance.

Just kidding! (um, sort of)

Anyway, watch the expiration dates on these sweepstakes as some of them expire as early as today.

Good luck and sweep away!

Week Two, Day Five -- All About Christmas

'Twas a week before Christmas and all over the net,
I was entering sweepstakes to see what I could get.

My fingers on keys went clickety-clack.
I was in it to win it--there was no turning back.

I typed all day and I typed all night
while I entered every Christmas sweepstakes in sight.

"You're not a winner," "Please try again,"
I read over and over to my chagrin.

Just as I thought my work was in vain,
I got a new message that wasn't the same.

"Congratulations," it said as I read it with glee.
"You have just won an aluminum tree!"

I lifted my brows in unhappy surprise,
then reminded myself, "well at least it's a prize."

When my prize came in, I errected the tree.
And it stood in pink splendor for all to see.

So I promised myself that I'd never again,
enter a sweeps I did not want to win.

In the meantime I have just one more thing to write:
Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!

You'll have to excuse my (Teresa) stab at both humor and poetry. It's almost Christmas and I am getting positively giddy. That's why I thought today would be a great day to enter Christmas related sweepstakes. All of the sweepstakes on today's list have something to do with Christmas and most of them end very soon so enter them while you have the chance.

Good luck and we'll see you on Monday!

Week Two, Day Four -- Sweet Treats

I'm kind of liking this whole theme thing. Cash one day, money the next, and sugar the day after that.

Sugar? Yep, I said sugar. Today we are going to enter sweepstakes that are either sponsored by confection companies or sweepstakes which are awarding sugary treats. Either way, it's going to be a pretty sweet day. I figured with Christmas coming, we're all consuming more calories than we ought to be. So what's a few more, right?

Speaking of Christmas, I'm thinking that our odds of winning a sweepstakes (particularly the instant wins) on Christmas Day are way better than they are any other day. Most people will be so busy with family that they aren't going to bother with online sweepstakes. That's my theory, anyway, and we'll see if it pans out.

As an update, the Marlboro contest has come to an end and we have won the following prizes: a Samsung netbook, a Fuji Nevada mountainbike, and a set of drinking glasses.

But back to the sweet stuff. Here are today's sweepstakes. Don't forget to enter previous sweeps, as well.

See you tomorrow!

Week Two, Day Three -- iPads

Michael wants an iPad. He's not one of those people who has to run out and buy the latest gadget but he is a geek at heart and he'd like an iPad to tinker around with. Unfortunately for him, I don't think Santa budgeted for an iPad this year. So today, I'm going to try to win him one. Of course, he'll be entering these sweepstakes, too, so hopefully we'll double our chances of winning.

We're fully aware that our odds of winning an iPad are somewhere between slim and none (mainly because so many people are entering these contests!) but the way I see it, it never hurts to try. So today, I bring you all of the iPad sweepstakes I could find.

Good luck! Oh, and if you win one, just don't tell Michael.

Have you entered all the previous contests yet? Neither have we but I, for one, am on my way to do it now. Happy sweeping!

Week Two, Day Two -- Cold Hard Cash

Since we began our project last week, we have entered a wide variety of sweepstakes and contests with prizes ranging from books, to cars, to cash, and more. The cash sweepstakes, however, seem to be pretty few and far between. We suspect that these sweepstakes are harder to win, too, since so many people are probably entering them. Nevertheless, today we are only bringing you sweepstakes that are awarding cold hard cash.

As always, we are entering all of the previous day's sweepstakes and contests but we are adding these for today:

  • $150 -- 1 prize available, enter once through December 15, 2010
  • EXPIRED

  • $1,000 -- 1 prize available, enter once through December 18, 2010
  • EXPIRED

  • $1,000 and More (Instant Win!) -- 360 prize available, enter daily through December 24, 2010EXPIRED
  • $25,000 -- 1 prize available, enter once through December 31, 2010 EXPIRED
  • $2,500 -- 1 prize available, enter daily through December 31, 2010 EXPIRED
  • $5,000 and $250 -- 31 prizes available, enter 5 times daily through December 31, 2010 EXPIRED
  • $500 -- 1 prize available, enter daily through December 31, 2010 EXPIRED
  • $10,000 -- 1 prize available, enter once through December 20, 2010 (note, this is a contest and you must write an essay to enter.)EXPIRED

Week Two, Day One -- Our First Wins

Guess what? We won something! Two somethings, to be exact. On Friday morning, after our last blog post, we received an email telling us we had won a book called, Sometimes You Can Go Home. It's no million dollars but if you knew us, you'd know that a book is an exciting prize, nonetheless.

Later that same day, we got another prize-winning notification. This time we won a Scholastic DVD gift pack! How cool is that?

So as we begin our second week, we already have two prizes under our belt. If this keeps up, we could change the name of the blog to 104 Prizes ;-)

Oh, and we also won a free RedBox DVD rental but since these are so readily available, we're not going to count it in our prize list.

Are you entering these sweepstakes right along with us? If so, we'd love to hear about your wins, too!

Today, we are going to enter a bunch of sweepstakes that are expiring soon. We figure it's never to late to get our name in the hat. Most of these expire in the next couple of days so be sure to get your entries in while you have a chance.

Be sure to come back tomorrow to see what we're entering next!

Week One, Day Five -- Contests vs. Sweepstakes

While searching for things to enter, I (Teresa) learned something new today. There is a difference between contests and sweepstakes. A sweepstakes usually consists of a random drawing. A contest, on the other hand, usually requires some sort of skill or effort on the part of the contestant. So Publisher's Clearinghouse is a sweepstakes (and yes, the singular of sweepstakes is still sweepstakes) while the Marlboro trivia game we are participating in is a contest.

To be sure, these two terms are sometimes used interchangeably but as a general rule, this is how they are defined. We have probably used these terms incorrectly in previous posts but from here on out, we will try to adhere to the correct terminology so as not to confuse anyone reading this blog.

Now, on to today's sweepstakes. :-) The first two I entered today actually came from the bottom of my cash register receipts--one from Target and one from Walmart. I have noticed that I get these all the time but I have rarely (if ever) responded to them. Basically, a store will invite you to fill out a survey about your shopping experience. Your name is then dropped into the proverbial hat for a weekly, monthly, or quarterly drawing. Although I have ignored these invitations in the past, I will now be sure to respond to them each time. When I filled out these surveys I discovered that there is an entry option for those who do not have a receipt invitation (Walmart's is online but Target requires a mailed in entry). So I'm linking to those below.

  • $5,000 cash -- one prize per month, one time entry (Target)
  • $1,000 gift card -- five prizes per quarter (I can't find any info on how many entries per person or per promotional period)
  • Wall Appliques -- one prize per day, enter daily indefinitely
  • Books -- periodic prizes, one entry per book
  • Homemade Baby Food Supplies -- one prize available, enter up to 5 times through different methods through January 5, 2011 EXPIRED

Well folks, that wraps up week one of our little project. I hope you all have a great weekend and that you'll come back on Monday to see what other prizes we're trying to win!

Week One, Day Four -- Instant Win

Four days in, and we're getting a little tired of waiting for the fruits of our efforts. It is going to be a long 361 days.

That being said, we have now discovered the joys of instant win games. These fun little games allow you complete some virtual activity (scratch off cards, matching games, etc.) to see if you have won a prize. The truth of the matter is, it is unimportant how well you perform these activities. You see, some computer somewhere has picked a winning time down to the minute. The first person to enter the instant win game after that predetermined time is the winner. With 1,440 minutes in a day, your odds are better than most contests, although still not that great. Nevertheless, these contests provide instant gratification--or disappointment if you fare as well as we did today.

Still though, we enjoyed the instant win games so much that we entered more than usual. The links are below for your entering pleasure. Please note that there are only two days left to enter the walgreen's contest so don't delay!

Please join us again tomorrow for another round of contests!

Week One, Day Three -- A Million Bucks and More

It's day three and we haven't won any prizes yet. Of course, it's going to take a while to build up all these entries so it is our expectation that the first few weeks will produce few if any prizes while the last several weeks will produce more than an average of a prize a week.

Is there any scientific or even anecdotal evidence to support this theory? Nope. Not a bit. We just thought that 52 sounded like an impressive number of prizes to win in a year, yet still attainable. Could we be totally wrong? Absolutely but that is the fun of the project. If we're right, we've got a bunch of stuff to show for our effort. If we're wrong...well, at least it was fun trying. And in the process, maybe some of you will win a few prizes and we can live vicariously through your wins.

Before we forget, we wanted to mention that we probably won't be writing on the weekends. We will, as our schedules allow, still try to enter the daily contests on the weekends but we have so many other obligations on Saturdays and Sundays that we don't really want to commit to writing on those days. And with Christmas coming up, our weekends are busier than ever. We just wanted to make that clear up front so you that when Saturday rolls around, you don't think that we have admitted defeat already.

Anyway, on to today's contests. We have, of course, already entered yesterday's daily contests again today. In addition we have entered these contests:

Don't forget to come back tomorrow for a new batch of contests to enter.

Week One, Day Two -- Prizes to Come

We have a slight unfair advantage from the onset because we know, for a fact, of two prizes we are about to win. But don't hold it against us...we'll still have 50 prizes left to win!

Anyway, a couple of months ago, Marlboro started up a contest called Outwit the West. This year's is the fourth of it's kind. The way it works is over the course of ten weeks, we are answering a total of 50 trivia questions about the west. Understand that these are not straightforward questions. The questions themselves are often in riddle form and the answers are quite subjective. But for each correct answer we submit, we get a particular number of points to accumulate for a prize. As we are nearing the end of the contest, it is becoming clear that each of us will get the prize we were shooting for.

Mike is working toward a Fuji Nevada mountain bike.

Teresa is working toward a Samsung netbook.

When we actually redeem our points for these prizes, we will include them in our list of winnings.

This particular contest proves our theory that winning has more to do with determination than anything else. We've worked hard for these prizes but it's a nice way to start off our 52 prizes project.

But now it's time to get busy entering as many contests as possible. After a quick google search for contests and sweepstakes, here is what we are entering today:

If you're playing along with us, don't forget to come back tomorrow so you can enter the daily contests again.

A Prize Per Week

Have you ever known someone who seems to be almost chronically lucky? You know, like your college buddy who won nearly every radio contest he entered. Or your best friend who manages to find the best steals--every time she shops. Or your Great-Uncle Lou who narrowly avoided being struck by lighting--multiple times. Or (the most jealousy-inducing one of all) the guy on the news who won the lottery--twice!

Well, just to be clear, we're not like those people at all. We're just a normal couple with a couple of kids and a cat, living in a modest home in Tennessee. We've won the occasional free Diet Coke or movie schwag from the latest flick but we aren't what most people would consider lucky--at least not in the prize-winning sense of the word.

With that in mind, we realized that the one thing all those "lucky" people have in common is persistence. Your college buddy? He won all those radio contests because he called in so many times. Your best friend? She finds the greatest steals and deals because she doesn't mind spending hours rifling through the clearance racks. The guy on T.V.? He won the lottery twice because he enters so frequently! As for Great-Uncle Lou...well, maybe he really is lucky.

It was with this realization that we asked ourselves, "Why not us?" Why couldn't we be the lucky recipients of all these prizes? We decided that we could--and we would. So we are setting out to do just that. Our goal is simple. We are going to attempt to win at least 52 prizes over the next year. Any tangible item or service provided in real life counts toward this goal (so a free massage counts but free web hosting does not). And, multiple prizes of the same item only count once. That means, even if we win 30 free Diet Cokes, we can only count them one time. After all, while we would appreciate 30 free Diet Cokes, we're trying to set our goal a bit higher.

Along the way, we'll keep you updated on what we're entering and what we've won. That way, you can play our game right along with us if you want. So good luck and let's get ready to win!
